A robust, detailed training programme accredited by the Institute of Mechanical Engineers and the opportunity to get recognition for good performance were what attracted Cyril Talian to Angel Trains - and he has not been disappointed.

Since graduating from City University with a degree and MPhil in Mechanical Engineering, Cyril has enjoyed a well-structured induction programme with Angel Trains that has boosted his knowledge and experience while at the same time adding value to the company. After his induction, he spent two years as a warranty engineer.

Cyril is currently responsible for looking after the fleets of First Scot Rail and c2c, working with the train operating companies to improve reliability and reviewing modifications.

"The training programme was set out from day one and it was clear what competencies were expected and when they had to be achieved," said Cyril. "In addition, I spent time in each department here so I know how they work together; also the external placements were extremely valuable in giving me the broad range of experience I need to do my job."

Like all graduate trainees, Cyril was given a mentor at Angel Trains with whom he could discuss training needs and feed this information back into the training programme.

"Although I have a mentor, there is an open door policy here which means I can get information and feedback from anyone on how to progress. There's a real sense of everyone working hard to achieve a common goal here, which is reflected in both the training programme and the support Angel Trains provides for extra learning."

Cyril is being sponsored to learn Spanish at work in the event of any future opportunities on the international side of the business.
